Brik pa Brik for Haiti

Brik pa Brik is a project to raise funds for Haiti, initiated by 2 twin sisters, Melie and Marianne, from C’est pas moi, c’est ma soeur. Melie and I have known each other for more than a year now, as I started to rent some space in the same workshop where she’s been working for more than 10 years as a jeweler and industrial designer. I am very proud to support this project and hope you will embark on this adventure too!

How did you come up with this great project?
Having little money to send after the 12th January catastrophe in Haïti, I asked my self what I could do with the resources I have. I’ am a jeweller, I’m an industrial designer, I have ideas… I knew that money was what Haïti needed and still needs the most, so I simply decided to make a piece of jewellery to raise money. It was important to create a piece that people would really want to wear. It’s important to wear the brik as a iconic symbol to remember the Haïtien people. Also the price needed to be low for anybody to afford so that way the brik can be spread around the town and hopefully around the country. It is only recently when I heard of the existence of the Architects of Emergency that my Brik project had no more excuses to stay in my head.

What is your background and how does it help your project?
Being a jeweller an industrial designer I was able to design the brik, I made few prototypes, I made a 3D model and had it 3D printed. Also, I had already produced pewter pieces before so I had contacts for the production.

Who do you work with on this project and why did you choose to work with them?
I worked with my sister of course and lots of friends. My friend Isabelle Auger was the first to get involved, she did all thee graphic design, starting with the logo Brik Pa Brik and the packaging, also Joseph Hillel thought of writing a press release. Arjun Mehra is helping with the website, Myriam Valcin created the Facebook group… We have all of our distributors that are really enthusiastic about the project! Anybody that has an idea to make Brik pa Brik happening is welcome to make it happen!

What do you do when you are not working on the Brik pa Brik project?
My sister and I run a company called C’est pas moi, c’est ma soeur (It’s not me it’s my sister) we make jewellery for private customers mostly engagement rings and wedding bands. We also make a line of fine chains and rings, using silver, gold pearls and mother of pearls. We design furniture and I teach jewellery making at the Visual Art Center.

Where can we find these cute little briks?
In Montreal you can find the Briks at La Galerie Noël Guyomarc’h on Laurier St., at m0851 stores on St-Laurent St., Maisoneuve boul., and Le Complexe des Ailes, also at Domison on St-Laurent St., Nota Bene on Parc Av. and at Philippe Dubuc’s boutiques on St-Denis and there new boutique on St-Joseph’s street in Quebec city.
