I love to work with wire and am always eager to learn new wireworking techniques! That’s why I was so excited to take Barbara Stutman’s class: Textile techniques with metal wire. When I started the class eight weeks ago, I wasn’t too sure of how I would use these textile techniques in my own creations. And also, I have to say that I was expecting to learn about wire weaving and basketry techniques, along with crochet and knitting. I then realized that there was just not enough time even to explore all crochet and knitting techniques.
However, at the end of the session, I was very happy with what I’ve learned with Barbara! Crochet wasn’t my favorite technique to start with, but I learned how to make a weavy flower at the very end of the course and really loved it! I will definitely buy some books on wire crochet to perfect this technique. I already have my mind set on making some crochet balls and layered flowers!
The second technique we learned is an equivalent of the viking knitting and I adopted it right away! Easy and fun: that’s how I can describe it. This is for sure a technique I’ll use in my creations. I have started with a bracelet, and I am now making a necklace.
Knitting with a crochet hook was another technique we learned during the class. it’s a very interesting technique that makes clean looking pieces of jewelry, compared to crochet which can sometimes look a bit messy. I still haven’t decided how to use this technique, but I am happy I have learned it.
And another great thing about this course is that I was finally able to use colored Artistic wire in my creations with great effects!
This has definitely been a great experience!
