The Knot Collection - Inspiration

Knotted jewelry has been quite popular for the past few years. You might have noticed that many jewelry designers are making knotted jewelry. And yes, I do too. So how are my knotted pieces different from the other designers’?

For me, knotted jewelry is not just a trend. My passion for knots dates back a long time, approximately 25 years. At that time, nautical home décor was a thing in France, with knot boards, shelves in the shape of boats, blue and white pillows...

I really fell in love with the symbolism and the aesthetic. I remember buying those books that taught us how to make all kinds of knots. And I even brought some of the items with me when I migrated to Canada back in 2001.Even now, one of the bedrooms in my house is decorated with a nautical theme.

When I was in jewelry school, I started exploring this nautical theme by sculpting shells and starfish in wax, cutting seahorses in sterling silver sheets… It didn’t take long for me to catch the knot rings trend! It was the perfect timing!

I started with the simple love knot which was the easiest to make. From there, I experimented with the other knots in my books that were do-able in metal. Then came the double wire knots. These were the most fun to work with, especially because they were more challenging to make.

Then one of my customers asked me if I could tweak my double figure 8 knot ring and make it into a climbing knot ring. One thing leading to another, I developed an entire collection of knotted jewelry that I’m really proud of!
