Mohs Hardness Scale is one of the most significant tests used to identify, classify and gauge the hardness of mineral samples. It is also used to compare and evaluate the durability of minerals, gemstones, metals, and other materials.

Long before, miners and mineralogist scratched minerals together to help them in determining its kind, therefore Mohs recommended his scale of increasing hardness to make their technique more definite.
