June’s second birthstone is the moonstone. Named after the moonlight by which it projects a color like the moonlight, a silver-like color when being held under the light. When the stone is moved back and forth, the color it produces moves as well, like moonbeams we see on the reflection of the moon in water.

Moonstone is part of Feldspars, a family of minerals, which are normally found in rocks such as igneous and metamorphic rocks. This particular mineral family appears as a large clean mineral grain which is found in crustal rocks and pegmatites. Its quality is a mixture of sodium and potassium including aluminosilicates

The best moonstones are said to be found in 5 places which are in Sri Lanka, Madagascar, Alps, India, and Myanmar.
