Topaz is the birthstone for those born in the month of November. Like Sardonyx, it also common and inexpensive. Under the MOHS Hardness Scale, Topaz is at scale number 8 hardness. It is durable and hard that it can’t be easily destroyed nor dissolved in any chemicals. However, due to its cleavage, it makes the stone prone to having flaws when it is banged or hit hard. The topaz gemstone is by nature colorless. However, with impurities, it produces varying colors such as orange-pink, deep sky-blue, orange-brown, multi-colored, and more. Different names had been used to describe the colors of Topaz - Azotic Topaz, Imperial Topaz, London Blue Topaz, Mystic Topaz, Rutilated Topaz, Sherry Topaz, Silver Topaz, Swiss Blue Topaz, and White Topaz. The most expensive is the Imperial Topaz with a vibrant orange color. This gem usually comes in big and perfect crystals that can be formed into giant gemstone and be weighed for a thousand carats.
